Fundraise for Solomon's Mosaic
Do you want to play a larger part in Solomon's Mosaic?
Take this opportunity to fundraise for a cause by educating your
friends and family about Operation Solomon, while encouraging others to buy a
tile.
Below are program ideas to not just encourage others to buy a tile
but educate them on Ethiopian Jewry and Operation Solomon. Contact us at
info@solomonsmosaic.org with other creative programs that you think we have
missed.
Promote Solomon's Mosaic yourself using Solomon's Mosaic cards created by the Ethiopian National Project. You can download the PDF and have them printed locally or in your own home.

Ethiopian
Movie and Dinner Night
A
great way to help raise funds for Solomon’s Mosaic is to have a movie and
dinner night. This is a great program that you can have with your youth group, Hillel, at your local Jewish
Community Center or even at your synagogue.
Hire
a caterer to make Ethiopian food or make it yourself, using some of the great
recipes on our site. Along with this, pick a film from our list to
showcase that night. If you’d like to make this an educational night,
pick a set of questions to discuss to learn more about Operation Solomon and Ethiopian
Jewry.
There
are several ways that this event could raise funds:
1.
Ask admissions of $10 to $36 ($36 enough for one tile). Make sure you
charge enough in order to make up for the cost of the event (food, renting out
a room, etc). Than use the funds to buy tiles on Solomon’s Mosaic
representing your organization. The more tiles you have the larger your
organization will be represented on the Mosaic!
2.
Ask participants to pledge $36 for one tile. If you’re in need of a form
to use email us and we can make one up for you!
Run
for Solomon’s Mosaic
Are
you running a 5k, 10k or even a half marathon or full marathon? Do you
want to run for a good cause? Ask your friends and family to pledge $36
towards Solomon’s Mosaic, enough to purchase one tile. The more pledges
you get the more tiles you will be able to contribute to the mosaic. If
you’d like to recognize them on the mosaic, dedicate your message to the
individuals who pledged to have you run for Solomon’s Mosaic.
We
recommend setting up a fundraising page, where individuals can pledge money
towards your race, but you could always simply ask your friends and family to
contribute. Ask participants to pledge $36 for one tile. Feel free to
email us for a copy of a pre-made pledge form to distribute at the event.
For further information and/or a form to be used please email us.
Cocktail
Party or Happy Hour
Have
a cocktail party or happy hour for young professionals in your community.
Hold
it at your community center, synagogue or at a local bar. This is a great way
to bring people together for some fun while also educating them about Ethiopian
Jewry and Operation Solomon.
Try
decorating each table with pictures and facts to spark interest, and providing
Ethiopian food. You could try showing a short movie or a few Youtube videos, or
check to see if there is someone in your area who can speak about Ethiopian
Jewry and Operation Solomon.
To
make this an event to raise funds for Solomon’s Mosaic, charge admission and/or
ask attendees to pledge $36 for one tile on Solomon’s Mosaic.
Bake Sale or
Hot Food Sale
Get
a group of friends together and cook up an Ethiopian feast! Set up a table at your
local synagogue, community center, or at any busy place in your area to sell
the food (don’t forget to check out whether you need a permit or permission).
Have fliers and other informational materials on hand to pass out, and invite
people to ask questions and learn more about Operation Solomon and Ethiopian
Jewry.
Check
out the recipes on our website, or do your own research to find others. Please
let us know if you discover a particularly good one, because we will publish it
on our website for others to try!
Other
ideas:
1.
Host a car wash
2.
Sell raffle tickets or host a silent auction (prizes could include Ethiopian
food, books about Operation Solomon, hand-made goods from Ethiopia, or even
gift certificates to local businesses or restaurants).
3.
Hold a kick-ball, basketball, or soccer tournament. Charge an entry fee for
each team, and have concessions for sale at the event.
